There is an alternative to combing through the phone book or doing random Google searches.  Nearly all areas around the country have a local bar association at the county level.  Many of those have a lawyer referral program, which matches callers with lawyer in the area who (1) carry legal malpractice insurance and (2) work specifically in the specialty area of law needed.

Here is a link for all the county bar associations in Pennsylvania.

If you’re matter is outside of Pennsylvania, you do not need link on this page.  A search on web is all that’s needed.  So let’s say, for example, you need to find a lawyer in Dallas, Texas regarding a dispute over property in the city of Dallas.  You should  just Google “Dallas” and “County Bar Association” and “lawyer referral.” The above search takes you to this link:
